Have been trawling a bit this morning, with very little joy. I have had a hardware crash and had to rebuild my dimension 4300. Looks like I have a common problem. Purchased in early 2002, it seems that, in their wisdom, Dell decided NOT to include the drivers for the CD-RW and DVD devices that I have on my PC.

I have had a look at the LG website but they only have the XP version of the driver. Transiver lampovij aljbatros navesnoj montazh. I do have Roxio Platinum 5 CD creator, but I am getting the familiar message that there is no writable device located on my system.
This of course is total BULL. If anyone out there has the driver, or has a system with the driver, could you please contact me and let me know where it is or send it to me. I need to get this fixed so that I can reattach my stuffed up disk and backup data.
At the moment I have lost 4 years worth. Hi Madasmaz, The drivers for the optical drives (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD/RW, DVD/RW) are generic to the Operating System, so there is really none to download. However after re-installing the Operating System did you install the Intel Chipset Drivers? If not, this can cause issues with a few devices. The driver should be on a disc you received from Dell but you can also download them from Dell, hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, enter information for system and follow the link. Best Regards God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the difference.
